The season opener fun shoot and BBQ will take place this Monday the 18th of May at the Handgun range at 6:00pm. Come out and help kick off another fun year of shooting!

Women’s Shoot a Success

On April 25th, the Pistol Club hosted a Powder Puff Shoot for women only. Ten local women participated in this fun competition, which was a timed event involving steel targets as well as paper scoring targets. The ladies even had to slay a Zombie to complete the course of fire. Many of the women were novice shooters but did very well on the course that involved a .22 caliber rifle, .22 pistol and, a 9mm pistol. Many thanks to all of the volunteers: Eric Liznik, Robyn and Jerry Whitaker, Daryl Biggs and Al Smith!! Everyone had a blast!! I would also like to thank Dwayne Cyr and Eric Liznik who have done such a great job of upgrading the steel target area. They built the “log cabin” that houses the large target trees. The target trees are self-resetting and now have heavy plates for 9mm through to .45 as well as lighter plates for .22. My wife’s favorite steel targets are the small silhouette animals. Do yourself a favour and take your sweetheart out to the club to plink with a .22 or something bigger, you’ll be glad you did!!

Rifle Division Holds 2015 Benchrest for Score Match

April 26^th the LOWGC Rifle Division held our 100 meter Hunter Benchrest Match right on time thanks to the early spring thaw. Conditions were mild but shooting over the 40, 60 and 75 meter Rimfire Silhouette bunkers gave us some unexplained hi/lo shots. There were 13 shooters, some with really good shooting factory guns shot by guys who knew how to get the best out of them. There were two new range records set. Rod Jack obliterated his old Hunter Class record by 16 points and Jacques Choquette beat his old Varmint Hunter record by six points. There were more 50 targets shot with factory guns than any previous match. In VFS/Open Class there was a 2 way tie for first place and a 2 way tie for second place with the same number of points and X dots. The ties were decided by the “miss and out” method starting on the first bull of the first target.

Thanks to Spencer King, Calvin and the Jack family for driving long distances to improve the quality of our competition. Cal shot his first 3 targets clean and I thought he was going to flog us like he does in Selkirk. Thanks to the shooters and volunteers that help make these shoots possible.
