Shot gunning at Lake of the Woods Gun Club evolved under the guidance and leadership of long time member Gord Dixon. Gord was a competitive clay pigeon shooter. He was an accomplished Amateur Trap Association shooter and avid Sporting Clays shooter. Gord loved everything to do with shooting shotguns at clay targets. Over the years, many young and new shooters were coached by Gord who always tried to help those who were struggling to improve their skills. Gord also gave seasoned shooters a goal, to try to beat him head to head in friendly competition. Many tried, not many succeeded. Observers were in awe of Gord’s practiced gun mounting style developed from years of a high level of participation in shotgun sports. There was no such thing as a rained-out Thursday night of Trap. Gord was there. As well, Gord spent a couple decades on the Board of Directors and helped nurture the Lake of the Woods Gun Club into the jewel that it is now. His name will be added to the Departed Members Plaque on display in the main club house.
